I can vouch for the coffee grounds! Few years back I had some herb pots sitting on my veranda and I never expected my lil ball of fur does his "thing" on my herbs. I was into organic fertilizers and, by chance a coffee addict, so I thought of sprinking my used coffee grounds on the pots. Wallaa! my cat left them alone! Won't stop by a single pot. ;-)

Hi there! WordPress found your site for me after I entered a post about trying to find the right soil mixture for my artichokes. I'm glad to find your tips, thank you!

Please visit if you'd like to: scronin.wordpress.com

I'm in San Francisco's Sunset District which has a cool, foggy, marine climate. I started a crop of artichokes from seed in a little greenhouse my husband built for me and so far have got them all in pots. Eventually I plan to put some in huge pots and give away others; they get really big as I'm sure you know. I'm also growing tomatoes in pots in the greenhouse, which is the only way you can do it out here in the fog belt.

Anyway, nice to find your blog and I'll check back!

I've only ever done flowers in containers, and not had very much success with them, so I'm going to try doing some tomatoes and herbs this year instead. Thanks for the tips... I need all the help I can get at this point.

Last year, I started a garden and everything went well and my plants were starting to grow, then one day the neighborhood dog got to them and for whatever reason tore everything up and ruined my work.
